Just a short update that dad is nauseated again and not feeling well. He is still swollen and back to having a hard time eating, can't move around to do therapies, etc. Please keep all this in your prayers and we feel like.."here we go again".
Also they told mom yesterday that he has to be moved...he has been there long enough for insurance, etc to say he has to move. Please pray as mom is now having to find another place. The case worker said for her to look for a "skilled nursing facility" instead of just a rehab facility with him still not doing very well.
Thanks for all the prayers!!!

Oh my! I know Medicare recertification processes and if they are saying this, generally they have run out of hope for much more rehab beyond the point of where he is now. However, that recertification period is a 9 week period. ARE THEY TAKING THE START DATE FROM THE INITIAL EVENT IN NOVEMBER? If so, it is necessary someone speak with the Utilization review office and have them restart the clock with the date he went to Kindred and not the date of the initial incident! Very important.
Without the trach or feeding tube or dialysis or currently treated infections, Medicare will not pay for a skilled nursing facility and things will need to resort to Medicaid or private pay. If the date can be reset for Kindred, it buys time to get him a bit better to go home with skilled nursing coming in.
This can be done. It just takes someone to really rattle the cage and get them to reset the dates so that he has a 9 week period at Kindred for certification.
I have advocated for others long distance like this but if you wish that help, I would need to talk extensively on the phone with you to get specifics on care and insurance and try to go to bat for you if you feel it would be helpful.
Mom knows all the details. I know that he is no way ready to come home. He was evaluated today by an employee from a rehab facility and she said that he is not close to even being able to come to one of her facilities. I know they are so far saying that he needs to be in another facility, kind of like he is now, just can't stay where he is b/c time is out. If you talk to mom make sure that she is not distracted (like at home in the morning around 8:45-9:30ish) and is sitting down with a pad and something to write with. Speak slowly so she can write it all, and ask her to read back what she has written down. She has gotten good at knowing she won't remember exactly what to ask if she doesn't write it down. I'm sure also she will let you go to bat for her. Thanks!
